The pop/rock quartet Lifehouse featured singer/songwriter Jason Wade, who originally tagged the band Blyss during the group's conception in 1996. After playing in various music scenes in Seattle and Portland, Wade brought Lifehouse to life in Los Angeles. Their thick sound was compared to Live and Matchbox Twenty, but Wade insisted Lifehouse was entirely original. He soon became recognized for his thought-provoking lyrics and deep vocals. They inked a deal with Dreamworks after years of gigging in L.A., and released their debut album No Name Facein fall 2000.

Mudpie Lyrics

Lifehouse

Nothing but a mudpie
Wrapped up inside with a pretty bow
Nothing but a castle built
On top a swamp of quicksand
And inside these cardboard walls
And saran wrapped windows
Theres a rust pot of fools gold
That you got with your life
[your guess is as good as mine]..loyalties
How you taught yourself to walk like royalty
Until the day you became his praise
You tripped over your incumbent
You wash your hair in that luca oil
Then you wrap your head up with tin foil
And prance around in your bathrobe
Pretending youre a king
Chorus: just spinning home
Sinking faster now
Well you can follow your rainbows
And I will follow the son now
Wherever he goes
Its not to far to run
So I will follow the son
Follow the son
Nothing but a clandar hanging on your wall
Its 23 years old
Nothing but a for sale sign
On a house thats already sold
Trying to chew through
That chocolate covered barbed wire
cause theres a mountain
Of beautiful filth
Waiting on the other side
Chorus
Clever lives end up rusty and forgotten
Brilliant minds end up with false amours
What I thought was so deep ended up so hallow
And what I thought had meaning ended up so shallow
Well you can follow your rainbows
And I will follow the son now
Wherever he goes
Its not to far to run
So I will follow the son
Follow the son
